    I am a linguistic heretic.

     If traditional language teachers were given a choice as to the one person in the world the would most like to burn at the        
    stake for linguistic heresies, I would have to be their choice.

     WHY, you ask, would they want to do that?  Because I am going to expose you to my beliefs and opinions on language learning,
    something they must see as linguistic heresies.

    They know that what I will you tell about language learning is the truth, but they don´t want to hear that truth, nor do they want
    YOU to hear about it.
                                                                                                     

What ARE My Heresies?              
    I believe that...

  • Traditional language courses are far too academic.

  • Traditional language courses are entirely too focused on grammar, verb endings, parts of speech and translation.

  • Traditional language courses absolutely do not teach the student to carry on everyday conversation in the language  
    nor do they endeavor to develop in the student the confidence to do so.

  • Most people find that traditional methods of teaching language don´t hit the mark of teaching a student how to speak.  

  • IF you are like most people, you only want to speak well enough to GET BY speaking Spanish.  You want to be able to talk,
    to converse - with real people who speak Spanish - in a minimum period of time.
                                                        WHO is the Language Heretic?                                      
    The Language Heretic has travelled extensively and conducted business throughout most of Spanish-speaking Latin America,
    and, since 1992, he has worked and lived on the Costa del Sol in southern Spain.

    With a background that included three years of secondary school Latin and three years of university level Spanish,
    not to mention two different, expensive, two-week, full immersion courses from some of the more famous language learning
    institutions, he still wasn´t able to adequately carry on an in-depth conversation comfortably and easily.

    On moving to Spain, the necessity to quickly and efficiently reach the point of being able to communicate effectively became an
    urgency for himself and his wife (who knew no Spanish).  Through this urgency to GET BY quickly and the necessity of teaching
    his wife Spanish, too, the shortcuts and techniques for the Language Heretic´s Super Crash Course in Spanish Conversation &
    Culture were developed.

    Now, he is often mistaken for a native speaker of Spanish, and his wife is the mistress of the double entendre.  She reached near
    native speaker fluency in only two years, using the very techniques that he teaches in his book.

    Retired from after a successful career in business, he has found a new career teaching others how to GET BY in Spanish.  

    You, too, can learn using the very techniques he developed for himself in improving his own Spanish speaking skills and those
    he developed for teaching his wife and others to become fluent.  You can benefit from his immense practical knowledge of the
    language, as well as with his academic familiarity with the language.  

    He has a natural gift for humour and for communicating his ideas of language learning in easy, understandable terms.

                 Let me tell you that my Spanish isn´t PERFECT.   
    Anyone who looks hard enough can and will undoubtedly find something to fault.

                  I am NOT a Professor of Language in Spanish.

                  I´m just a guy who has had a lifelong love affair with the Spanish language and culture and who knows how difficult it is
                  for most people to bridge the gap between the desire  to speak Spanish and actually speaking Spanish.
